Who?
I have a friend. We were very close that I know almost all about him. He has a funny nickname- Toto. He said that it came from the province of her father and her sis called him with that nickname before he came out in her mother’s womb. He lived in their house of course, somewhere near Banilad, City of Cebu. I can memorize his number because we are both Globe users.
His favorite food were fried chicken, roasted chopped pork, French fries, burger and any other food that contains meat on it. He has pets. He had two hens, a rooster, three chicks, five fishes and two doves. His favorite books were books that contain stories of love and life, suspense, horror and mystery books. But his most favorite book is “The Bermuda Triangle”. He played many sports. He played volleyball, tennis, table tennis, scrabble, badminton, soccer and many more. His favorite color is sky blue or any other color that has the shade of blue. His zodiac sign is Taurus because his mother gave him birth on the sixth of May, in the year 1994. His hobbies are playing computer games or physical or mind games, dancing, singing, eating and reading books. He does not have any favorite singer or favorite radio station. His favorite cartoon character is Tasmanian Devil or Taz. He always wanted to watch love, suspense, horror and mystery stories on film. He has a shell collection at their house and his favorite shell was the most unique, pink shell that he gave to someone special in his life.
He describes himself as a ninety-nine point nine percent human and 0.1% alien. His motto is this- Time is a great teacher. He gives the test first before the lesson to be learned. His happiest moment when he accompanied her crush in going home and the mother of her crush received him as a special person. The most embarrassing moment in his life is when he skidded in front of many people. His definition for crush is when you admire a person. His crushes always change. The type of girls that he always had a crush was those intelligent and shorter girls than him. He always met his crushes in schools.
His unforgettable date was when he and his crush were walking down the street going to a place where their friends were, then it rained and they shared an umbrella. While they were walking his crush suddenly complained that she was already wet, so he embraced his crush with one of his arms and continued walking until they reached their destination.
He’s a friendly but some kind of choosy. He had his friend girls more than boys. But he always bond with the boys because they always play computer games.
He is in his first year nowadays. He is one of the honor students but unluckily made it to the top ten. I think that he’s not that intelligent and not that dull. In fact he was a consistent first honor from Grades I to V and graduated as valedictorian in his former school. He has 23 medals. Twenty were gold; two were silver and a bronze. He had many ambitions in life. He dreamed to be a scientist, astronaut, engineer and even a teacher.
He is no other than me.
Love and it's true meaning
Everybody says that no one can love. Do you think this is true? But what does love really means? Well, they say that love is when you love that person for a reason and that reason is unknown. Some define it as when you smile at the thought of someone loving you just the way you are. Others define it as when you do something for somebody without conditions nor expectations. But what really love means for lovers and is there something beyond love?
A famous writing that is a very good example for showing love is “Romeo and Juliet” written by William Shakespeare. Couples or lovers show this in their own ways. Some do this by H.H.W.W. or holding hands while walking in parks.
Well, everybody loves. Not only for lovers but also for a family caring and loving one another. Like a mother that puts her baby to sleep. Another is a father giving a chicken's best part for her daughter or son. Parents that educate their children. A wife and a husband are still together for better or for worse of their family. A wife seeing her husband sweaty and she says that he is more handsome than Sam Milby. A family walks hand in hand and side by side in many life journeys of difficulties in life. The aged also show this love in their own ways. An example is when lola can't scratch her back because she can't reach it. Then, lolo scratches it for her. Well there's nothing bad for being affectionate.
Friends also love their friends. Well not all friends are always there to reach out a helping hand. True friends are the one you should love. One example of this four-letter word is when you offer a shoulder to a friend where she or he could cry on. Another is by making your friend full of glee in times when he or she is sad or by making him or her feel your presence in times when your friend is alone.
We display love everywhere. There are too many meanings of love. You call it love when you see more positive traits of a person than her or his negative traits. You also call it love when you have someone loves and cares for you in good times and bad times. Love is in the unity in the midst of diversity. Another is when you try your best to learn things that you hate that your loved ones wanted and liked much. Giving up of something that you still need.
Love starts of course from the first time you met. As time passes by, you know more about one another. After sometime, you became friends. As the time goes on with your going on friendship, you develop some kinda feelings inside but because you don't want to broke your friendship. This is where love comes from.
Who says that we teens could not understand love? We can show it by many ways like having relationships with the other or befriending people.
They say that height, weight, age and sex doesn't matter in the kingdom of love. But we should remember that we should study first before entering the world of love.
Love as defined by doctors define it is a medicine that as time passes by and we take it every now and then can lead to addiction. Loving too much is not good but loving less is not right.
Overnight
It was our third overnight for the Stargazer’s Society members. But this overnight is different from the past overnights. All the freshmen attended the overnight.
I did not go home. My father sent me the things that I needed for the overnight. He also sent me my supper. After eating, I changed my clothes and wore the club’s t-shirt. When the clock stroke seven, my classmates started to arrive. Some of their parents with them and others reached school by themselves. Mme. Gallo told us to lay our beddings.
Around eight in the evening, Mr. Christopher Go had a short lecture about the Junior Red Spot and the New Horizons Pluto Express. He also showed us some animations that he did for his lecture. He showed us pictures of his bosses and the planet Jupiter. He informed us that year 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy. Some of my schoolmates asked questions and he answered all of them.
After the lecture, we went back to the soccer field. I wanted to sleep or just lie down, but the boys in our class decided to have our mats closed so that we’ll have a bigger space. We made noise. I decided to watch a movie in the LEADER and invited my classmates to watch. They hurried to the LEADER at once. We brought our blankets for it was cold and we didn’t bring jackets. The demand of the viewers was to play the DVD Princess Hours. I was the one who operated the DVD player. But then a second year student told me that he will play a horror film. I went back to my seat. Some of my classmates were shouting already even if it’s in the introduction of characters. I have already seen the movie but I wanted to watch it again. The movie was “The Shutter”.
One of my classmates screamed. The next part is the most exciting part for it was near the end. Mme. Gallo said that we should stop the film because we were noisy and people were asleep. We can wake them up. And in fact, horror movies are not allowed. We went back to our place, where we lied down, ate and drank. I and my boy classmates decided to sleep. One of our classmates was very noisy; imitating one of our teachers. We can’t sleep because of him but a little while later he was asleep. So, I decided to sleep.
It was four thirty when I woke up. They laughed at me because I was the first one that was fast asleep and I should be the first one to wake up but I was not the first one to wake up. Instead, I was the last one to wake up in our group. We brushed our teeth in the sink. We decided to have jogging and roam around the school. It was a minute or two past five thirty when the wake up call sounded. The school bell rang.
We took pictures. It was always done after each overnight: to have picture-taking and to hear the wake up call. I said goodbye to my classmates and friends. And that was the end of our third overnight in the U.P.H.S. Grounds.
A recent life chapter
Have you met a person that became an important part of your life? After sometime you became friends but one day you two had a little misunderstanding. You became enemies and you don’t want to be drawn near her or him. I am experiencing it now, just read along. It was my second day as a first year high school student. Our former teacher in English rearranged us by height. Before the rearrangement, I was in the first seat from the door. After the arrangement, I was on the third group seating at the fourth seat.
I was eating my lunch when a girl from a particular school, greeted me. At first, I can’t believe that someone knows me from other schools. She asked me if I knew her. I said that I didn’t know her but she looks familiar to me. So, she just introduced herself to me. She also introduced her friends that were my classmates. Our schools are members of a district. It was District VII. She asked me if I can remember the Science Quiz Bowl when we were in the fifth grade. She said that she was one of the participants on that bowl. I apologized because I forgot her. She said that she hated me in that quiz bowl because I was like a mind-reader. She said that I could read visions. But I just laughed at her and said that my teacher trained me well. I befriended one of them. I wanted to make her as my best friend because she resembles my former best friend in attitude and standing. I asked her a favor if I can put things in her locker. She said that it was okay for her. One afternoon they had an urgent meeting, she asked me if I can do a favor for her. I said that it was okay because I finished my cleaning job. She asked if I can put the things on her locker. I assured her that I will do what she said. After their meeting, she thanked me.
One noon, after eating my lunch, I asked her about her family. Then, we came to a topic that I think is sad for her. It was about her father. She was going to eat her lunch that time but kept her lunch and said that she lost her appetite. I apologized to her. I kept saying that she should eat but she keeps on replying that she didn’t want to eat. I felt guilty at that time because of my curiosity. The next day, she told me more information about her father. She asked me to buy juice in the canteen and I did it.
One afternoon around noontime, my friends and I were planning to fool our other classmates. We wanted them to believe us in our joke. Then she came into the room and my other classmates told her that, “Oh, A warning from the CWTS again!” I said, “Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.” Then she asked us “Where?” and we replied that we were just fooling her. She told me straight from where I’m standing that how dare we. I said that don’t be too hot. But she shouted at me in front of the class and scolded me like a junk. From that day on, everything changed.
Day after day, we don’t pay attention to one another. We don’t go near from one another and when we meet, one of us go to the other way. One time when she opened her locker, I got my things and put it on another locker. I just thanked her for keeping my things.
But then, I realized that I should be the first to say sorry. Being shy, I sent her messages in her e-mail address. I thought that she didn’t read my messages and just put it into trash. Another way of apologizing was when our overnight was postponed because of the bad weather. She had many things to bring back home. I said that we’d just wait for my father so that she wouldn’t have difficulty in bringing her things. She didn’t thank me for helping her but I think she thanked my father.
So I stopped in sending her mails of apology. But for the last few days, she sent a message of apology. But I don’t know what I’ll do.
How to Get Good Grades
Academic ratings and grades are important in todays world. Usually written permanently in our report cards and high school transcripts, they become critical keys to your life's learning potential, your future's employment or occupancy choice and yourself image. Consider what Henry Ford once said: “If you think you can do well in school, you're right; if you don't think you can do well in school, you are also right”. It's not just a matter of brains and intelligence. We are all intelligent. We have got all the mental ability. It's a matter of attitude, a matter of desire. It's all up to you, if you will study or not.
Study hard or study smart? We've got to study smart. Learn how to use right steps to get first-class grades. Learn also tools for your study. First of all, the main tool r the head tool is our brain. The brain is a sharp-performing engine. What I mean is a high performance engine. We can accelerate speeds, control other factors and go even faster. Conquer for test concerns and gather more points. Increase our vocabulary. Be well in pronouncing English words. This high-performing engine is our responsibility. We are the driver and no one else can take the wheel.
Learning can be fun and it is what we do best. From the time when our mother gave birth to us and until now, we have done nothing but learn things in the environment and grow up at and astronomical pace- gaining more knowledge perhaps that we will use now and for the rest of our lives. Our brain is a marvelous machine. So, let's trust our brain and believe in ourselves.
First, when writing essays, we should not limit it with just a few words. The limit is the sky. Second, have goals and aim for high grades. Always aim for a perfect score. Third is we should always exercise our wits like we exercise our muscles. Like what Mme. Logarta said, “Use your brain without your books”. Next is we should develop to sharpen our memories. We should not forget our lessons. Remember that memory is our greatest tool for saving time and energy. The only thing wrong is how we playback and remember those lessons. Next is to develop our reading power. Not only by making the voice loud but also our comprehension and how we can retain all of those. Next is to master the art of studying. We should not waste our time by studying late in the evening because we can't remember what we have studied. Eighth is becoming an expert in taking tests and quizzes. We should know the coverage and ask if we don't know. Next is to take worthwhile notes. We should not let all the questions to just pile up. Tenth is to write legibly. We should learn how to write clearly so we can have a clear concised expression that is essential for our lives. Have good attendance is the next. Lates and absences makes deduction in our grades. The last and most important is to be fit mentally, physically,socially and spiritually. Health risks affect our grade. We can't participate well in the discussion.
So, we know how to get good grades. It is by doing your best, keeping fit and most important is by praying.
Your best friend becomes you worst enemy
Everybody needs a friend. As they say, we should thank God that we can choose our friends not like our relatives and cousins that are chosen by fate. I think that a friend is your second self. What if one day your best friend becomes your worst enemy without knowing the reason why he or she is mad at you? How can you fix th tension between you and him or her? How can you solve the problem? Can you still be friends?
When I was in my sixth grade in elementary, I have a best friend since the first grade. His name was Louie. He was always there for me. He makes me happy when I'm sad; makes me accompanied at the times when I'm lonely. He is the youngest in their family and only their mother took care of hem.
In our sixth grade, we had a new classmate that came from Manila. Her name was Ivy. Ivy's father was a n assistant-to-a-captain in a ship. She came here in Cebu because of her sick Lola. She enrolled in the public school because she was late to enroll in any private school's enrollment. Her mother won't let her stop for a year. She became a part in Louie's and my life. She became the third member in our group. I am thinking that Ivy enjoys our friendship bonding. Louie is shy whenever Ivy comes near. I didn't pay much attention, considering that Ivy was a newcomer.
One afternoon, Louie and I had a “man-to-man
talk”. He confessed his feelings to me for Ivy. He said that he loved Ivy since the day they met. I said that i will do anything for him and Ivy. I also said that he and Ivy are a perfect match. They both have beautiful faces. I also promised to keep that talk as a secret.
One day during our free time, the girls were playing a game. It was “Truth or Consequence”. Ivy joined them. Louie was watching her at the corner. I didn't have the time to watch because I was called to go immediately to the Principals Office to answer a phone call from our teacher. As the class president, she gave me what lessons to be taught and what are the assignments to be done. When I was entering the door of our room, Louie was looking at me furiously. I thought that he was joking because he always joke like that. During our discussion, Louie was not listening. I didn't pay attention because i have to finish what the teacher told me to do.
After the class, we always have a simple bonding. Louie didn't come this time. I thought why. I asked one of our classmates. He told me that Louie went home very early. He said that Louie was mad at me. I asked him why. But he said he didn't know.
On the next day, I came to school early. I saw Louie in his seat. I was going to him when he suddenly turned hi back and warned me to step back. I asked him why is he acting like that, if what's the problem. Ivy came into our room between our conversation. We were not able to continue our conversation. Ivy went near him and he received her as a friend.
Time passed by until Louie was saying bad things about me. The tension between us grew bigger. I decided to consult our Guidance Counselor. The Guidance Counselor called Louie, me and ivy as our best friend. Louie told the story that when the girls had the game truth or consequence, Ivy was pointed to choose. She chose truth. A girl asked her who her crush is. She replied that I was her crush. I said that it was only crushes and asked her who her love is. Ivy answered that she loved Louie from the very start. When Ivy knew that Louie has feelings for him she was very happy.
That was an unforgettable experience for me because that was a very cute love story for them. I was glad for them,
Technological Advancement: Computers and others
Computers! Computers! Nowadays, many teenagers and kid are addicted to it. They prefer to hold the keyboard and mouse in the Internet café all the time than to get hold of books at home, study their lessons and read about science, math and literature. Through technological advancement and science explorations, comes these “computer-hooked” children. What's interesting with these gadgets? Well, we can easily search what we're looking for. We can also make presentations, slide shows and articles in the computer. We can also listen music in the Internet and play some games.
Most students love to browse and surf the net in Internet cafés than to read books in the school library. Why? It's because they found that Internet browsing faster and more convenient. With the technologies nowadays, they are able to search for multiple answers to their questions in a split second. Not only that, since it's faster than reading books and other research materials, it saves time and effort and gives us time to relax and rest. Students now fancy the Internet because it offers more entertainment and less hassle. Internet offers a very broad range of topics for students and youth to be discovered not like books which has limited resources and information. The most useful websites are those that has search engines. You can search for images, videos, news and others. Examples of these websites are Yahoo, Google Answers, Wikipedia and Search. There are also school websites where you can get information about a particular school. We can also gather different kinds of information.
With this so-called Internet , we can also connect to our relatives and friends in faraway places. We don't need to write them letters because we can send them messages through mailing. We can also chat in the Internet. We can chat with our friends and schoolmates. We can also befriend people around the globe through websites that connect us to them. Some of these websites are Yahoo Mail, G-mail and Friendster.
Another interesting field in the computers and Internet is also it has entertainment sections like games. It depends on the site that you will visit. Gaming is the cause why many kids are addicted to it. Games are off line or on line. Some of our neighbors are. From school, instead of going home directly, they go first to the Internet cafés until midnight, they stay there without any food in there stomach. Some do cutting classes so they can go to the Internet cafés early. Some go there early in the morning around one or two o'clock A.M. This is why we say that gaming is powerful in computers. Gaming is like prohibited drugs that once tasted always wanted.
With this advancement of technology, other gadgets begin to bloom. Some of these are third generation and 3.5 G cellphones; laptops and palmtops and portable CD, VCD and DVD players. There are too many other things that came out from technological advancement. Some of these are usually used at our homes like refrigerators, oven and air-conditioners. But these affects our environment. It releases chlorofluorocarbons that pollute our environment. Little by little, it makes a hole in our ozone layer that protects us from the harmful rays of the sun.
The essence of science and technology:ask an impertinent question and you are on the way to get a pertinent answer. Technology... is a queer thing; it brings you gifts with one hand and stabs your back with the other.
